Q&A with Ronald

How did you get into taking pictures for a living?

I’ve been searching for an occupation that is exciting and demanding at all times – photography perfectly matches this. Plus, I love beautiful things, good design and architecture.

Tell me about your 360º photography studio setup! For starters, what kind of camera do you shoot with?

I use a Canon 5D Mark 2⁄3 and a PhaseOne, depending on the use case ahead. For 360° photography, I use photorobot equipment.

What type of products are you particularly good at creating 360º views of? Do you have a specialty?

For a realistic presentation, almost anything is suitable, the only dependency is technology. I’ve constructed a device that features a 5 meter wide turntable, carrying a max of 4 tons. This caters for a whole lot of requests. In addition, I emphasize the emotional aspect in every photoshoot – similar to a chef: the meal may look beautiful, but what makes it shine is the flavor and atmosphere.

Describe your ideal client for shooting a 360º view.

A client who loves their product and who thrives to have their love being photographed perfectly and extraordinarily in any circumstances.

For 360º photography, do you prefer shooting in high volume or low volume?

I believe it’s merely a matter of organizing each order. With huge volume, one might be asked to lower the price. With small volume, the risk of estimating the time is bigger. Whichever size, it’ll be done – just like in real life.

What kind of things do you do for fun? You know, outside of work?

I love classical music, jazz, and hard rock, good food, and cooking. To free my head, I visit mother nature or go climbing.

How does your pricing work for 360º product photography?

It depends on many factors: the volume, the surface, the technical efforts required. But not to worry, we’ll always find a solution.

What’s a memorable project you’ve worked on in the past?

I had to photograph breeding bulls for a herd book. I was standing in the middle of a meadow – alone with only a bull. Running away with a heavy tripod was not an option. Another memorable project was a series of aerial shots of the first layers of snow.
